Every species is researched from at least two reputable sources, then fact-checked against them. We use values for healthy long-term keeping, pick the conservative value when sources disagree, and list our sources and review date on each species page. Drafts and checks are prepared with the help of AI research tools. If you find an error, tell us and we'll fix it.

Who writes FishFits

FishFits is an independent website. The FishFits team writes and maintains the content. No shop, brand or manufacturer reviews or approves what we publish.

How we research species data

  • At least two sources. Each species is researched from at least two reputable sources, such as Seriously Fish, FishBase and care guides from established aquarium stores.
  • Checked against the sources. After a profile is drafted, its values are checked again against the cited sources.
  • Healthy long-term keeping. Tank size, temperature, pH and hardness describe what a fish needs to thrive for years, not the limits it can survive.
  • Conservative when sources disagree. We use the widely accepted, more cautious hobby value. For example, if sources give different minimum tank sizes, we lean toward the larger one.
  • Sources shown. Each species page lists the references we used and the date it was last reviewed. All references are collected on our sources page.

How we use AI tools

We use AI research tools to help draft species profiles and guides and to help check them. AI can make mistakes, so we don't publish its output on trust. Values are checked against the cited sources before they go live, and the sources are listed so you can check them yourself. If something still slips through, please report it.

How our calculators work

Our stocking calculator and compatibility checks follow fixed, written rules. They are explained step by step on our methodology page. Each aquarium calculator shows its formula on the page. The results are estimates to help you plan, not guarantees.

Independence and money

Some links to shops are affiliate links, and the site may show ads in future. This never changes our data, compatibility results or calculator output. No company pays to be included, recommended or rated. Read our affiliate disclosure.

Corrections

If you think something on FishFits is wrong, email hello@fishfits.com with the page address and, if you can, a source. We check every report against our sources. When we confirm an error, we correct it as soon as we can, update the page's review date and, for changes to species data or calculator rules, add a note to our changelog.

Keeping pages up to date

We review species data and guides when new information comes in or when readers report problems. We only change a page's "last reviewed" date when we have actually checked it.

Not veterinary advice

Our content is general guidance for home aquariums. It isn't a substitute for advice from an aquatic vet about a specific sick fish. See our terms of use.
