Fish compatibility checker
Add two or more species to see whether they can live together, and why.
Two fish are compatible when they share water conditions and won't eat, nip or bully each other. We check comfortable temperature, pH and hardness, adult size against mouth size, fin nipping versus long fins, aggression, territory and shrimp or snail safety.

Frequently asked questions
How do I know if two fish are compatible?
They need overlapping temperature and pH ranges, neither should be able to eat the other, and their temperaments must match: no fin nippers with long-finned fish, no aggressive fish with peaceful ones. This checker compares all of that from our species database.
What does "caution" mean?
The fish can live together in the right setup, but there is a known risk, for example occasional fin nipping or barely overlapping temperatures. Read the reason and decide whether your tank can handle it.
Are compatible fish guaranteed to get along?
No. Individual fish vary, and tank size, decor and the order you add fish all matter. Use this as a strong guide, add fish gradually, and watch for chasing, torn fins or hiding.
